Faculty Development Programme

Continuous professional development courses for teachers have been one of the hallmarks of NIS.

First FDP

The first FDP of the Academic Year 2024-25 was conducted on May 18 2024 taken by Mr. Sandeep Shastry

The session on National Education Policy conducted on 18th May, 2024 began with a beautiful gesture of patting our backs for the wonderful result in NIS for grade ten.

  • The four goals of NEP
  • Framework of schooling - Foundational, Preparatory, Middle Stage and Secondary stage
  • Explanation of CORE along with examples
  • Difference between Teaching and Learning
  • Multilingualism
  • Indian culture
  • Sports and Arts to be included as main curriculum
  • Global Citizenship
  • Measure that matters
  • Digitization

Additional worksheets based on NEP were distributed . All the faculty members were expected to fill in the details, collate the content and send it to Dr Shastry.

Feedback : The session was very engaging with lots of learning sessions peppered with great examples and the highlight being the exciting jigsaw puzzle which was linked to the learning process. Looking forward to such educational and fun filled workshops.

Second FDP

The second FDP of the Academic Year 2024-25 was conducted from May 20 th 2024 was taken by Mr. Neil Vincent

A session on guidelines and usage of TATA class Edge was held on 20th May 2024. Tata Edge is an online learning platform offered by Tata Interactive Systems. It provides a range of courses and resources for professional development and skill enhancement.

Tata Edge offers a diverse range of courses covering various domains such as:

  • Art and craft for grade 1 to 8
  • English Reading for grade 1 and 2
  • Hindi and English Grammar updated for grade 1 to 12
  • Physical Education for grade 11 and 12 with worksheets.
  • Competency based questions for grade 9 and above.
  • Upgraded videos with real pictures.
  • Identification of the old and new videos- New videos begin with questions and layout design page.
  • General Knowledge topics added for class 1 to 5.
  • Sanskrit subject introduced for 8, 9 and 10.

Feedback by faculty

  1. Tata Edge has excellent worksheets planned for students of all levels.
  2. It had provided detailed information on the topics.

Third FDP

The third FDP of the Academic Year 2024-25 was conducted on 21st May , 2024. The session was taken by Dr. Shailaja Shastry on Session On Multiple Intelligence . Faculty members benefited from the session.

  • The session started with an activity which provided an opportunity to introspect for the participants and analyze their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. (Mask making activity)
  • Dr.Shailaja then listed the eight intelligences and gave a brief description about each with relevant examples.
  • The eight intelligences are:
    • Visual/ Spatial
    • Logical/mathematical
    • verbal/ Linguistic
    • Bodily Kinesthetic
    • Naturalistic
    • Interpersonal
    • Intrapersonal
    • Musical/Rhythmic
  • The definition and examples stated about each intelligence was then mapped with the activity which was conducted at the beginning of the session. This part of the session was thoroughly executed and articulated by the participants.

Feedback: ● Ms. Hamsini (Senior Secondary Section) Session was excellent, interesting and interactive. Learned the application of multiple intelligence and teaching methodology in a more creative method.

Fourth FDP

Intricacies of Lesson Planning - Ms Niti Mahendra

The FDP workshop on the intricacies of lesson planning, held on the 22nd and 23rd of May 2024, was an insightful and comprehensive session conducted by Ms. Niti Mahendra. The workshop delved deeply into effective strategies for lesson planning, providing educators with a robust framework to enhance their teaching methodologies.

Five Learning Factors:

  • Learning Outcome Structure: Performance, Condition, and Criteria. Participants wrote learning outcomes using these components.
  • Characteristics of a Good Learning Outcome: defined by the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-framed).
  • Pedagogy: Linked to Bloom's Taxonomy - CAP.
  • Format of Learning Outcomes: Subject, Verb, and Object (SVO).
  • Competency: The 7Cs of 21st-century skills (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Lifelong Learning, Collaboration, Communication, Citizenship, and Computational Thinking).
  • The workshop concluded with a rich discussion on subject enrichment activities and multiple assessment strategies, equipping educators with practical tools to enhance their teaching efficacy.

    Feedback: I found the workshop to be highly engaging and informative. The content was relevant and well-structured, providing a comprehensive overview of planning the lesson plan, learning outcomes and assessments. The concepts were easy to understand and related to real-life situations. The depth of content covered was impressive, ensuring that all aspects were addressed. - Ms. Divya S(Secondary section).

Fifth FDP

Art integration in School curriculum - Dr. Pavithra

A session on Theatre as Pedagogy was conducted on 24 May ,2024.

One of the focal points of the FDP was the use of theatre as a pedagogical tool. Dr Pavitra elaborated on how theatre can be effectively utilised in the classroom to facilitate learning. Key points included:

  • Enhancing Communication Skills
  • Promoting Empathy and Emotional Intelligence
  • Encouraging Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Integrating Curriculum Content
  • Interactive and Improvisational Games
  • By integrating art into the curriculum, teachers can create a more engaging, inclusive, and effective learning environment. The participation and enthusiasm of the attendees reflected the potential for these innovative strategies to transform our educational practices.

    Feedback: The FDP on “Art Integration in School Curriculum” was a resounding success, providing valuable insights and practical tools for educators to enhance their teaching methods.
